What Is Deck Staining & Sealing?
Deck staining and sealing applies a protective finish to wood decking, adding color and, more importantly, a barrier against moisture, UV damage, and everyday wear. For Arrington, TN decks, regular staining and sealing is the single most effective thing a homeowner can do to extend a wood deck's lifespan.
Why You Need It
Wood decking left unstained or unsealed for too long loses its protective barrier, allowing sun and moisture to break down the wood fibers directly. This shows up first as graying and splintering, but over time it opens the door to rot, especially in areas where water tends to collect, like board edges and fastener holes.
Our Process
Cleaning and Prep
The deck is cleaned and allowed to fully dry, since stain and sealant won't bond properly to a damp or dirty surface.
Sanding if Needed
Rough or splintering areas are lightly sanded to help the new finish absorb evenly.
Stain Application
Stain is applied evenly across all boards, railings, and stairs for a consistent, protective finish.
Sealant Coat
A protective sealant coat is applied on top, locking in the stain and adding an extra layer of moisture resistance.
What to Expect
Staining and sealing starts with cleaning and a drying period, since moisture in the wood prevents proper absorption. Once dry, we apply stain evenly across the whole deck, followed by a sealant coat. Depending on weather in Arrington, TN, the whole process including dry time typically takes a few days from start to finish, and you'll want to avoid heavy foot traffic on the deck while it cures.
